James Oscar Loomis, The Eggplant Festival, Del Oro High School. Some of the riches traditions and characters are set in the South Placer community of Loomis, which, although incorporated, proudly calls itself a town and not a city.
In insisting on the "town of Loomis" rather than "city," residents are only maintaining the singular traditions of the community named after James Loomis, postmaster and saloonkeeper of the 1860's and 1870's.
The town's yearly Eggplant Festival helps celebrate it's farming roots and the days when roadside fruit stands dotted old Highway 40 (predecessor to today's Interstate 80) as it ran through town.
